Adaptive Leadership is a set of principles, strategies, and practices that can help organizations and the people in them break through gridlock, accomplish deep change, and develop the adaptability to thrive in complex, competitive, and challenging environments. In other words, it is what every pastor and active layperson needs to know in doing ministry in the fast changing world of the 21st Century!
Susan Beaumont is a senior consultant with the Alban Institute located in the Washington, DC area. She is an ordained pastor in the American Baptist Church and has served as an area minister in that denomination. She has written several books about church leadership and numerous articles. She believes that“every faith-based organization has a God-given mission that is a unique reflection of the community it serves and the giftedness of its membership,” and her teaching will reflect and present practical ideas for churches large and small. This one day workshop will introduce you to the concept of Adaptive Leadership and how its practices might benefit your church, and encourage you to do further reading together with your church leaders on this important subject. Workshop participants will:
Understand the role of the leader in the face of truly adaptive work
Explore 10 Key principles of adaptive leadership
Anticipate the reactions of an organization facing adaptive work
Frame the adaptive challenges that you face in your ministry context
Design an adaptive intervention that invites organizational learning
